On December 8, 2024, Donald Joseph Black of Queen Creek, Arizona, passed away at the age of 87. Don was a cherished son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Ann Handy Black, and their four children: Tosh (Jenny), Celeste Hale, Crysta Johnson (Andy), and Tyler (Cory). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Don was born on June 25, 1937, in Los Angeles, California, to Reed and Gertrude Black. He was the youngest of three children, with his older siblings, Barbara and Richard.

A proud Army veteran, Don loved serving his country. He earned his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University and his doctorate from California Western University. In his early career, he thrived as the owner of a bike and tourist shop in Solvang, California. Later, as a psychotherapist in Mesa, Arizona, he created a counseling office that became a place of solace and love for all who entered.

While living in Solvang, Don founded the LDS Seminary program and served in numerous callings and roles within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a dedicated educator, a renowned youth speaker, a seminary teacher, and the author of more than 20 books. His love for youth earned him prestigious honors, including the Distinguished Service Award and the Outstanding Youth Leader of America Award. Don also served two missions—one in Denmark and another in Arkansas (Institute of Religion)—alongside his favorite companion, Ann.

Throughout his life, Don found joy in creating meaningful experiences and pursuing hobbies. He loved restoring antique cars and was a proud honorary member of Disney's Mouseketeer Club, with a particular fondness for Jiminy Cricket and Mickey Mouse. In his later years, he was inspired to establish a Joseph Smith and Church History Museum in Nauvoo, Illinois.

Don was best known for his remarkable ability to touch the hearts of thousands while still connecting deeply with individuals. His greatest legacy was his role as a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ.

Services will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints chapel located at 31844 Gantzel Rd, San Tan Valley
